The Parkland Walk rang out with joyful song during October, when Songworks members came together for the first time since lockdown.
In small, socially distanced groups, the choir sang new songs and old favourites to a passing audience of walkers, runners, cyclists, families and their dogs.
Having met only on Zoom since March, singing in person once again was an emotional and uplifting experience:
“We came together under the bridge on a gloomy day in the pouring rain. With the first song came tears then pure joy. To hear voices in harmony was like coming home. Thank you to choir leader Denise for having the insight, spirit and determination to make it happen. I can’t wait to sing again.”

“It was fantastic to sing together again after so long only meeting on Zoom. Singing in nature is really special and for such a small group we managed to make a great sound. You can’t beat the magic of being able to hear the harmonies of those around you. Singing in Crouch End is back!”

“It was such a joy to be singing harmonies again; surely one of the finest pleasures known to humanity. With Denise’s face radiant as we sawed and soared through songs of rapture and resistance. And an acoustic to die for (thankfully not Covid-related) under the Crouch End Hill bridge. Glorious.”

For choir leader Denise, setting up the sessions meant grappling with a raft of rules and regulations, but the pleasure of leading the choir in person made it all worthwhile. “It was wonderful to hear Songworks’ voices again, and to see the delight it brought to the singers and to and passers-by.”
